Srah Srang is the name of a lake with the special architecture in Cambodia. Srah Srang Lake was built since 10th century and was repaired in the 12th and 13rd century. Srah Srang Lake was built for Buddhism only, this is a solemn and respect place of all Cambodian at that time.
Srah Srang Lake is an artificial lake and it was built by the king in the past. Srah Srang Lake has a simple architecture and it is included three steps staircase to go down the lake. In the past, the kings often took a boat trip to the center of Srah Srangk Lake to take sightseeing, specially see the sunrise in the lake, this activity is to be pleasure and relax.
Srah Srang Lake where the tourist see at the moment has been destroyed, this lake is surrounded by a lot of the different and big kinds of trees. In the dry season, the lake do not have water so that the tourist is easy to walk to the center of this lake to do sightseeing and see the antiquities which were sank in the past.
Around of Srah Srang Lake still keep the status of stone, snake, and lion….they were sculptured very skillfully with many different sizes and they were set to head to the lake face. Now a day, some status are still kept as originally, but some of them have been broken, and it seems this ravage attracted a lot of the tourist to come and explore this lake.
Srah Srang Lake has been ever the main irrigational source in the past, but passing the time is Srah Srang Lake has been downgraded, so now it is just the ancient historical relic because its irrigational function is not available. This lake is the great place for people to wait for and welcome the sunrise in the early morning. The first sunny is very beautiful at the time the lake has the water, the reflection make the sparkling light and it brings the comfortable feeling, welcome a new day with a lot of fun.
