The best time to visit this ancient destination is from November to January when the temperature ranges from 23℃ to 33℃ and the rainfall is less. Ayutthaya is hot and humid all year, including the winter months of December and January.
How to travel to Ayutthaya?
It is only about 85 kilometers from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, making it simple to choose various modes of transportation to reach this destination.
By train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya
Depending on the service, trains departing from Bangkok’s Hualamphong train station will take you to Ayutthaya in 1hr 20min to 2hrs 30min.
The railway station in Ayutthaya is not close to the temples so to get to the ruins, taking a ferry or a tuk-tuk (three-wheeled motorcycle taxi) is the best option.
On a hot day here, if you don’t want to walk through the entire complex, you should rent a bike or pay a tuk-tuk driver to take you from one temple to the next.
By joining a group or private tour from Bangkok to Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya is a massive temple complex that spans 289 hectares. There is little rhyme or reason to the location of the buildings, and even with a map, you may have difficulty locating specific ones without a tour guide during your adventure time here.
The tour will start in Bangkok by car, and on the way back Bangkok will take a riverboat cruise down the Chao Phraya River to enjoy views of the temples that line the riverbank.
By bus/minivan or private car from Bangkok to Ayutthaya
The bus/minivans will depart from Mo Chit Bus Station and make several stops along the one-hour journey to this ancient site, and you should stay until the final stop to reach the ruins. It’s a short walk from Naresuan Alley to Wat Mahathat in the park’s northeast corner.
You’ll pass by Chao Phrom market on the way, which is a good place to stop for a snack and a cold drink before reaching the archeological park.
