Vang Vieng is far from Vientiane (the capital of Laos) about 175km, is a peaceful and quiet town, is surrounded by limestone mountains and large forests, and offers a variety of unique activities such as kayaking, trekking, elephant riding, canoeing, and especially tubing.

Vang Vieng Laos, once a wild party town dominated by wild backpackers, has changed dramatically in recent years. The downtown area is now thriving, with boutique hotels and high-end restaurants replacing some of the waterfront’s party-heavy backpacker bars.

The best time to visit Vang Vieng and enjoy all of its best activities is from November to March when the average temperature is around 25 degrees.

How to travel to Vang Vieng Laos?

All visitors should arrive by car because there is no airport in Vang Vieng. The distance between Vientiane (Laos’ capital) and Vang Vieng is about 175 kilometers and takes about 4 hours by private car/taxi, about 5hrs by bus/minivan, and about 6hrs by the local bus.

The train ride from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng takes about 3hrs, while the bus or drive takes about 5hrs.

3. A short journey to the picture-perfect village of Ban Pha Tang to discover the Pha Tang Bridge & temple
