Mrauk U overview

Mrauk U is Myanmar’s historic capital. To get to this old capital, take a bus from Bagan or Yangon to Sittwe, then a boat that takes around 5 hours to this site.

Mrauk U features

Mrauk U is an excellent destination to visit if you want to learn more about Myanmar’s history and culture. When you arrive, you will have the opportunity to see the most ancient temples, there are over 4000 temples in total, and their beauty, architecture, and symbolism will surprise you. Almost all of these temples are made of stone and were constructed in a massive rock highland between the 15th and 18th centuries. This is what was retained as one of the most sensitive cities in Southeast Asia, where it has always been incredibly wealthy and had a lot of traders from other nations.

Although this palace is underrated and gets fewer tourists than other Asian destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, and Cambodia, any traveler who visits here is pleasantly pleased by the nice and honest residents. Since 1430, this has been Ankara’s historic capital. This area has been covered with tropical forests and a high range of mountains, and locals still live and work in an area with over 700 temples.

Arriving here is like vanishing into a fabled nation filled with thousands of temples and pagodas, and there is a temple with around 80.000 to 90.000 Buddha sculptures. Mrauk U is considered an ancient city, with temples and pagodas made of brick and stone rather than mud and clay like Bagan.

However, nature’s impact on this location has been tremendous, and with a lot of rain, this location is occasionally buried in water every week. Mrauk U had up to 6342 temples, according to old archives, but because of the harsh weather, many of the major and large temples were damaged and vanished, leaving only the stone temples surrounded by hills, mountains, valleys, and villages. We could also conclude that this was once larger and more rickety than Bagan.
