Inle Lake overview

With a high leave of 800m to the sea and Myanmar’s second largest freshwater lake, Inle Lake is one of the most famous and important sights that should not be missed when visiting Myanmar.

With a total area of approximately 116 km2, this lake is still regarded as Myanmar’s precious jade.

Exploring the lake is not only a fun and interesting experience by boat, but it also teaches you about the customs and habits of the locals because this lake is home to many different ethnic groups such as Shan, Intha, Pa-O, Danu…

How to travel to Inle Lake?

The most convenient way to get to the is by flying to Yangon, then taking a short flight to Heho, and then taking a taxi or a private car to the lake. You could also take a night bus from Yangon to Inle, or a daily bus from Bagan, Mandalay to Inle, or drive to Nankan Canal ferry, then rent a boat to explore the lake.

What types of lodging are in Inle Lake?

You do not need to be concerned about lodging around the lake because there are numerous large and small hotels in the area. The room rates at these hotels are also very reasonable, ranging from $20 to $30 per night. These hotels also provided various services such as renting boats to explore the lake for a fee of around 15-20 USD per boat, with each boat accommodating a maximum of five people.

If you do not want to spend the night in the lake, you can go to the bus station and take a night bus back to Yangon.

What is the special food in Inle Lake?

When visiting the lake, you should not miss out on sampling the local cuisine, which is prepared directly by the locals, or in the restaurants located around the lake, it is inexpensive, unique, and delicious.

When visiting Inle Lake, you should not miss the morning market in Ywama village, where locals bring local products to exchange and sell to tourists.

Aside from the morning market, Inle Lake is also famous for the Phaung Daw Temple in Tha Lay, after visiting this famous temple, you should see the sunset from here, it is very nice and romantic.
