Battambang overview

Battambang is Cambodia’s second largest city. This city is around 293 kilometers northwest of Phnom Penh. This is one of the most beautiful and old cities, where the French ancient architecture can still be found. When tourists arrive in this city, they will have the opportunity to visit Tonle Sap Lake (the Great Lake), which is very popular in Cambodia and one of the largest lakes in Asia.

Highlights of Battambang

Despite being Cambodia’s second-largest province, it retains its rural nature and is unaffected by tourism. Almost all of the buildings here are in the French colonial style or are indigenous Cambodian structures. Almost all of the residences here are no more than three stories high, and cars and carts circulate on the streets. Battambang is different from other cities; the local economy is based on rice, timber, sapphire, farm, and fruits.

Exploring Battambang, tourists have the opportunity to trek through small towns, rice fields, and farms…all of which will make you feel extremely fresh and comfortable to do sightseeing in Cambodia’s countryside, which is still not polluted. Aside from that, this site contains historic pagodas, Angkor-era ruins, caves, waterfalls, and even Red Khmer killing fields.

When visiting this city, you should not miss taking a bamboo train, which is the most unique creation of the inhabitants. You can also use this vehicle to get from Battambang to Phnom Penh. Discover Battambang, where you can also sample the local cuisine, which is both excellent and unique. When visiting Battambang, you must see Ek Phnom, one of the Angkor-era ruins, Phnom Banan Temple, which was built in the 11th century, and Phnom Sampeou Temple. Three of these locations are the most well-known in this unique city.
