Take a 1-hour 15-minute flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai International Airport is only a few minutes from the city center, so catching a tuk-tuk (a motorized three-wheeled taxi) or a moto taxi to the Old City center is simple.

Take a sleeper train from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station to Chiang Mai Station, which will take 12-15 hours and will take you through historic Ayutthaya, golden temples on top of hills, tropical jungle, and small traditional villages. This is an experience worth paying for.
