Chiang Mai, Thailand Overview

Chiang Mai, also known as the “Northern Rose” of Thailand, is approximately 700 kilometers from Bangkok.

With the natural and poetic beauty of the fat land and valley, as well as the immense rice fields with the hills, this unique destination attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world every year.

Best time to visit Chiang Mai

The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between October and April when temperatures range from 20°C to 27°C. The weather is mostly pleasant and cool, with a light breeze.

Another great time to visit Chiang Mai is during the Chiang Mai Loy Krathong Festival, which takes place on November 8, 9, and 10 (the full moon day is November 9). This is also the most popular festival in the region because the city comes alive during the festival.

How to travel to Chiang Mai?

Three simple ways to get to Chiang Mai from Bangkok:
Take a 1-hour 15-minute flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai International Airport is only a few minutes from the city center, so catching a tuk-tuk (a motorized three-wheeled taxi) or a moto taxi to the Old City center is simple.

Take a sleeper train from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station to Chiang Mai Station, which will take 12-15 hours and will take you through historic Ayutthaya, golden temples on top of hills, tropical jungle, and small traditional villages. This is an experience worth paying for.

Take a bus from Bangkok’s Mo Chit Bus Station to Chiang Mai’s Arcade main bus station, this is also the cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Express buses or Bangkok Busline are good places to book a bus ticket.
