Royal Palace overview
The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh the capital of Cambodia, has since become an icon of the capital and a must-see for visitors, with its graceful Khmer roofs, ornate gilding, and lush gardens a fine example of Cambodian royal architecture that covers some 174,870 sqm of the city center.
Royal Palace is located in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh. This is a complex that includes various buildings that house the Cambodian King’s family as well as serve as a reception area for foreign visitors.
Since the palace was completed in 1866, all Kings of Cambodia have lived here, except for a brief period when the Red Khmer reigned. The palace was built after Norodom King relocated Cambodia’s capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh around the year 1800.
This is a complex that includes the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, as well as many different buildings and a large garden, these two important places are an architectural complex that represents Cambodia.
Tourists should not wear shorts or bring any animals when visiting the Royal Palace. Particularly in the festival room, nobody should be taking photographs or filming while visiting this palace, and in some places, you will have to remove your shoes to go inside.
How to travel to the Royal Palace?
The palace is in the heart of Phnom Penh City, making it accessible by taxi, car, bus, or even foot if you stay in a centrally located hotel.
This palace is close to Tonle Sap Lake, which is also home to and close to many of the main attractions, including Silver Pagoda, central markets, entertainment places, and well-known local restaurants with very beautiful river views.
The pagoda is a major attraction in Phnom Penh, it is normally included in a city tour of the city, but you can also visit it on your own.
The Royal Palace is located in the heart of Cambodia and this is one of the major attractions in Phnom Penh City so you should not miss seeing it once visiting Cambodia.
