Muong Thanh valley overview
Muong Thanh Valley, also known as Muong Theng Valley or Dien Bien Valley, is situated in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province. The valley, which covers more than 150.000ha, is the second largest in northern Vietnam and one of the country’s four largest and wealthiest valleys (filed).
There are Muong Thanh Valley in Dien Bien Province, Muong Lo Valley in Yen Bai Province, Muong Than Valley in Lai Chau Province, and Muong Tac Valley in Son La Province all lie in the northwest.
Attractions in Muong Thanh valley
The valley is surrounded by various hills and mountains, the most prominent of which are Pu Hong Meo and Pu Hong Thai. This unique valley is also well known for the major war that took place from March 13th to May 7th, 1954, spanning 56 days and nights, allowing travelers to see and learn about many of the historical remains of this battle, which was once very famous all over the world.
This valley contains a 20-meter-long and 6-meter-wide field with various diverse and well-known rice types from Vietnam’s northwestern region, including Dien Bien. The valley is located in the heart of Bien Bien and is recognized as a beautiful “depot” containing a large amount of rice and corn. This valley is rich in alluvium from the Nam Ron River, which has provided water to the Muong Thanh field over time.
The best time to visit Muong Thanh valley
The best time to visit the valley is toward the end of September when the rice fields are yellow and ripe everywhere; from the top, Muong Thanh Valley appears like a yellow valley with a delicious perfume. Tourists can now easily go to the valley by bus or a short flight from Hanoi to Dien Bien, and then by bus to this unique and famous valley.
For tourists looking to explore the valley, the Muong Thanh Great Field is a must-see destination. Visitors can learn about the local culture and habits of the Muong people and other ethnic groups who live here, making it a unique and enjoyable experience.
