National Museum of Cambodia has been designed and built by two architects is George Groslier and Ecole des Arts Cambodgiens based on the Khmers’ traditional style from 1917 to 1920.
This is a place where display the archaeological, religious and artistic produces which have been existed the most long-standing of Khmer people from 4th to 13rd century. There are over 5000 specimens and they are also the symbol of the rick about the kingdom’s culture.
National Museum was built since the beginning years of 20th century. The building process has been lengthened three years under the French domination, so that its own architecture has been mixed of two architectures of two countries France and Cambodia. This is the different attraction of National Museum comparing with other famous architectures in Cambodia.
Although National Museum has just been built since 1917, but all antiquities in this museum has very long ages. There are many antiquities since 3rd century. Cambodian care and keep the ancient antiquities very carefully, they protect them as they were determined to fight to have their own independence. So that, the tourists visit National Museum, beside take sightseeing at here, they are listened about the histories and understand thoroughly about the people at here.
National Museum is located between of 178 street and 13 street, closely with Royal Palace. The time is opened from 8am to 5pm everyday.
