2016 Wine Festival taking place on Ba Na Hills in Danang will be an opportunity for tourists to enjoy moments of relaxation when tasting the flavor of special beverage of France right in the European characterized space on Ba Na.

Inspired by the ancient Debay wine cellar built by the French cross the mountain from the last century, the festival is the opening event of an exciting summer on top of Ba Na Hills with many interesting things await tourists .
In 1923, along with the construction of hundreds of villas, hospitals, post offices, banks … to serve the needs of the holiday of French officials, military officers, businessmen and wealthy Vietnamese, the French built a cellar on the top of Ba Na to store kinds of alcohol, especially wine – a product that is considered France’s national spirit that the French brought to Vietnam to enjoy.

The Cellar has a total length (from the entrance to the exit) of about 80 meters (it is now built around 20 meters more), a height of 2.5 meters, about 2 meters wide, with the wine cellars storage inside, area of wine distillation, wine bar, fireplace, lounge. Basement walls were built from rocks and mortar made from a mixture of sugar and sap of bời lời – a fairly common tree in Quang Nam – Da Nang. The ceiling of the cellar was built in arc with bold French architecture. Moreover, vaulted ceiling helps to create the solid foundation for the cellar. That is why, nearly a century, while hundreds of splendid villas of a time are now only the ruins, the cellar has been still there with time, overcome the harshness of nature and the brutality out of bombs during the war, is the only French building remaining quite intact on Ba Na.
Coming to Ba Na Hills this occasion, visitors will be given many coupons to enjoy a free glass of wine and snacks such as fruit, sausage, ham … Right at the campus of Le Jardin d’ Amour flower garden, guests will sip wine while watching the special flowers of Ba Na.

Along with the withdraw of the French in Vietnam in 1954, Ba Na has gradually fell into oblivion and Debay cellar also suffer the same fate in a long time. Although the area has been knocked out by the war, the cellar has been still basically intact and has been restored to put into operation to serve tourists when visiting “the fairy scene” of Ba Na.
