A boat ride down a tiny river makes seeing Tam Coc and Bich Dong Caves even more delightful; this is a one-of-a-kind boat, it is a little wooden boat rowed by a local, sometimes you can row it yourself, and it is incredibly fun and interesting.
Bich Dong means “green cave,” and it was named by Prime Minister Nguyen Nghiem, the father of the great poet Nguyen Du. The name Bich Dong has been in use since 1773.
In Vietnam, there are also very beautiful caves such as Phong Nha Cave in Quang Binh, Surprise Cave (Sung Sot Cave) and Thien Cung in Thien Cung, and Dau Go Cave in Halong Bay…but Bich Dong Cave in Ninh Binh stands out for its beauty and construction.
