Pakse overview

Pakse is the provincial capital of Champasack and the southernmost province of Laos.

The distance between Vientiane and Pakse is around 700 kilometers, and it takes approximately one hour by plane and one day by bus.

From Pakse, tourists should visit key attractions such as Bolovens Highland, and Attapeu Province, or travel to Gia Lai, Kon Tum of Vietnam, or travel just 40 kilometers to Cambodia.

Highlights of Pakse

Since the construction of the Laos-Japan Friendship Bridge across the Mekong River, tourists just need to drive 40 kilometers to enter Thailand, and from there, they can go to Thailand’s northern Nong Khai Province to return to Vientiane, Laos.

Because of its unusual and convenient location, many travelers make Pakse their first stop on their journey.

Aside from the land, the airway is also a highly convenient means to travel to Pakse. Every day, Laos Airlines offers direct flights to Parke, while Vietnam Airlines has direct flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang to Pakse.

With its advantageous position, this youthful city is also a popular tourist attraction and the backbone of Laos’ economy. This was the kingdom of Champasak Bounum King, the final king of Laos before the feudal regime was abolished in 1946.

This site is also the famous Bounum King’s palace, which includes several other significant sites like the Friendship Bridge Laos-Japan, the commercial district Dao Vieng, and the world heritage Wat Phou…The Wat Phou Festival, the Pha Veat Festival, and the Khao Phansa Festival are just a few of Pakse’s unique festivities…

The local cuisine is here also incredibly special.

All of the aforementioned factors combine to make Pakse a unique and desirable destination for any tourist who has visited or plans to visit this location in the future.

Laos boasts several tourist-friendly cities such as Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and the Golden Triangle…but anyone who visits this place even once will have an amazing experience.

How to travel to Pakse?

From Vientiane, the capital of Laos, you can take a one-hour flight or a bus (or drive) for almost a day to Pakse.
