Emerald Buddha Temple, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Kaew (officially known as Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram), is a temple in Bangkok that was built in 1782 by Rama I, who founded the Chakri Dynasty.
When Rama I chose Bangkok as the capital of his dynasty, this temple was thought to be the place for the royalty to perform Buddhist rituals, but there were no monks present.
