Sukhothai overview

Sukhothai Thailand, which is 427 kilometers away from Bangkok, served as country’s first capital from 1238 to 1438.

The Imperial Citadel, a Buddhist temple, and Sukhothai Historical Park are only a few of the historical sites in this region, which have a total area of about 6.600 km2. Since 1991, UNESCO has recognized this historic city as a part of the global cultural patrimony.

Highlights of Sukhothai

Based on several sites including the Wat Mahathat Royal Temple, the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum, bastions, and canals, Sukhothai has developed into a popular destination for travelers who want to learn more about the history and culture of the Thai Kingdom.

Sukhothai is known as “the morning of happiness” since it has not been much impacted by urbanization. Sukhothai Park, a gem of Siamese architecture, includes the 3,38 km2 region where the Sukhothai monarchy once stood.

This location served as a symbol of Siam and the original Thai creativity, and it continues to do so now by preserving a number of distinctive architectural styles.

With a total size of about 160.000 m2, Wat Mahathat Royal Temple is the largest Buddhist temple and is regarded as the center of Thai Buddhism. It is a really lovely and unique temple.

How to travel to Sukhothai Thailand?

You can catch a train or bus for about 7 hours, the drive is about 6 hours, ferry, or plane from Bangkok to Sukhothai.

The best way to fully explore this tourist complex would seem to be to cycle around Sukhothai in the morning. It is also very convenient for you to travel to Sukhothai from Bangkok by any method from one of the vehicles above.

This location is one of the most worthwhile attractions in Thailand, so you shouldn’t miss it on your trip there.
