The elephant village is located in Luang Prabang, Laos near the Namkhana River and features elephants of various sizes ranging from little to enormous. The best time to visit Elephant Village is in the dry season from October to late February when the weather is warm and dry throughout the country, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 30°C.

Each enormous elephant can carry over 600kg and consumes over 200kg of food. Elephants are compassionate and clever despite their size. To avoid embarrassing yourself in front of the elephant, you should not wear shoes with a sharp heel when riding it. In order to obey its owner, an elephant will sometimes refuse to eat anything until it dies.

How to travel to Elephant Village?

The elephant village is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Luang Prabang, in the bush near Ban Xieng Lom (Ban means village in Lao).
It takes roughly 30-45 minutes to travel from Luang Prabang to the elephant village.
The best (and most recommended) method to view the elephant settlement is on a tour. When you choose a package tour, an air-conditioned van will pick you up from your Luang Prabang hotel or guesthouse and drop you off at the end of the adventure.
