Bao Dai Palace overview
Bao Dai Palace consists of three palaces: Palace I, Palace II, and Palace III. It is located in the central of Dalat City which is still called “the city of love and flowers)
Bao Dai Palace’s features
Palace I locates on a high hill 1.550m above sea level, surrounded by pine forests, about 4 kilometers southeast of Dalat City in Lam Dong Province. Robert Clément Bourgery, a French millionaire, built Palace I in 1940.
The total area of Palace I is approximately 60 ha, this is a unique and ancient architecture. When King Bao Dai granted permission to repair this location, a tunnel was discovered here, connecting Palace I to Palace II.
The tunnel is approximately 4km long, and the Japanese built it with the intention of capturing French mandarins in the palace as well as the nearby palaces. Then King Bao Dai ordered that this tunnel be hidden.
Palace II locates in Tran Hung Dao Treet and was built in 1933 in a pine tree with a 1540m height and includes 25 luxury rooms. Jean Decoux built the secret and difficult tunnels to protect himself and his family.
Palace III, also known as the Bao Dai Palace, locates in the 04 District and is surrounded by the Ai An forest. Palace I and Palace II are large structures built in 1933 with 25 luxury rooms, this is where King Bao Dai and his family will live.
Normally, tourists prefer to visit Palace III, where King Bao Dai lives and works, over the other three palaces. This well-known destination not only draws a large number of domestic tourists but also foreign visitors who come to learn about a historical period as well as the unique architectural structures of Vietnam.
