You are met and escorted to your hotel in Siem Reap’s center to check in, relax, and have lunch in a local traditional restaurant before our half-day trip this afternoon to explore a part of the Angkor Temple Complex with Ta Prohm Prasat Kravan, Srah Srang, Banteay Kdei, and Ta Keo. First, we visit Ta Prohm, one of the most beautiful temples in the area. Ta Prohm has remained relatively untouched since its discovery, retaining much of its enigma. Continue your visit to Prasat Kravan’s unique interior brick sculptures, Srah Srang (“The Royal Baths,” which was once used for ritual bathing), and Banteay Kdei (surrounded by 4 concentric walls), Ta Keo, We will enjoy the sunset at Phnom Bakheng hill temple in the late afternoon, which was built entirely of sandstone in the late 10th and early 11th centuries C.E. Transfer you back to your hotel and relax until our tour guide and driver return to pick you up for our welcome dinner with Apsara show in a Siem Reap local restaurant. Return to your hotel.

We begin our journey around 8 a.m. by visiting the rest of the Angkor Group’s main sites. Today we visit the antique capital of Angkor Thom (12 century): the South Gate with its massive statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, and the Bayon Temple, which is unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara, the Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace, and the Leper King Terrace. We eat lunch at a local restaurant near the Angkor Temple Complex before heading to the most famous of all the temples on the Angkor plain: Angkor Wat. The temple complex is 81 hectares in size, comparable to Beijing’s Imperial Palace. Its distinctive five towers are depicted on the Cambodian flag, and art historians regard the 12th-century masterpiece as the pinnacle of classical Khmer art and architecture. Return to your hotel in the evening to relax and explore Siem Reap on your own.

Today we visit all of Phnom Penh’s major attractions. Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel around 8 a.m. and we will begin our full-day trip to explore Phnom Penh. First, we will visit the Royal Palace, built by King Norodom in 1866 on the site of the old town, and the Silver Pagoda, located within the grounds of the Royal Palace. The Silver Pagoda is so named because of its floor, which is made up of 5000 silver tiles. Then proceed to the National Museum, which is one of Phnom Penh’s true architectural gems. With its warm red terracotta and a gracefully cured roof topped by dozens of guardian nagas, the Museum is instantly recognizable. The famed French architect Georges Groslier & Ecole Des Arts Cambodgiens designed it in Khmer style in 1917. We stop for lunch at a local traditional restaurant before continuing on to the infamous Killing Fields of “Choeung Ek,” 15 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh. This is the site of the brutal executions of over 17,000 people, the majority of whom were subjected to interrogations, torture, and deprivation in Toul Sleng Prison during the Pol Pot regime (From 1975–1979). Continue your journey to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21 prison). This prison was a high school that was turned into a prison by Pol Pot’s security forces, and it became the largest center for detention and torture during the Khmer Rouge’s rule. Return to your hotel to unwind.
