Best things to do in Hue

Hue is a charming town that one can easily explore on foot or by bike. Located along the Perfume River, the location is ideal because you can take many side trips near the city.

Thien Mu Pagoda: The official symbol of the city, a 7-story Buddhist temple, along with a stone turtle created in 1715. The Tombs of the Ancient Emperors should also not be missed, with carvings to honor them and tell the stories of Buddhist legends.

Tu Hieu Pagoda: where you can listen to monks chanting, you can also visit another famous site where over 70 monks live.

Perfume River: which is still regarded as Vietnam’s most lyrical and beautiful river, with many songs and poetry written about it, it is also the city’s spirit.

Following a boat ride on the Perfume River, you should explore the important historical attractions of this area, including the tombs of Vietnamese rulers:

Gia Long King Tomb: Built between 1814 and 1820, this is a massive tomb complex with an area of around 11.234.40m2. The mausoleum is surrounded by 42 mountains, ranging in size from small to enormous. The Gia Long royal tomb was built along the Perfume River, where the weather is cool all year. It was created to be a perfect balance of nature and architecture.

Minh Mang King Tomb: This tomb is located atop Cam Khe mountain in Hue city, about 12 kilometers away. This is the second king of the Nguyen dynasty to reign in Hue.

Tu Duc King Tomb: This tomb is considered one of the most exquisite examples of Nguyen dynasty architecture. It’s in Huong Ba hamlet, Thuy Xuan commune, Hue city, under a valley.

Khai Dinh King Tomb: the Nguyen dynasty’s 12th monarch, is located atop Chau Chu mountain, Thuy Bang commune, Huong Thuy district, Hue city. The tomb of King Khai Dinh is located 10 kilometers southwest of the city center. This is a one-of-a-kind edifice that was created by combining elements from the West and the East. Although this mausoleum is smaller than others, it was constructed with great skill and care during a ten-year period from 1920 to 1930.

Hue’s food specialties

The special local foods in Hue include Com Hen (rice with mussels), Bun Bo Hue (vermicelli and beef or noodles with beef), and Rice Spaghetti (cooked with shrimp, crab, or meat)…
