Tran Quoc Pagoda overview
Tran Quoc Pagoda is an ancient pagoda in Hanoi, Vietnam. This well-known pagoda is located on a peninsula to the south of West Lake, at the end of Thanh Nien Street in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District.
This pagoda has always been the Buddhist center of Thang Long and the Tran dynasty. And, with its historical and architectural values so it is a very sacred place that attracts a lot of Buddhist faithful, tourists, and domestic and foreign tourists.
Tran Quoc Pagoda’s history
Tran Quoc Pagoda is known as Khai Quoc Pagoda during the Ly Nam De Dynasty (541 – 547). During the Le Thai Tong dynasty (1440-1442), it is An Quoc Pagoda. And, it is Kim Ngu Pagoda during the Kinh Le Kinh Tong dynasty (1600 – 1618). Then it is referred to as Tran Quoc Pagoda.
Because there are many people living around this pagoda during the Hai Ba Trung (40 – 43) period, it still has many different caves and a lot of big trees that covered Tran Quoc Pagoda. So there were some valuable animals around at the time.
Tran Quoc Pagoda is one of the most sacred pagodas with very beautiful sightseeing. It was the place for kings to visit and pray on the fifteenth days of the lunar months, festivals, and New Year. And, there were many palaces to be built, especially during the Ly and Tran dynasties, to serve as kings’ resting places.
When you visit Tran Quoc Pagoda, you will not only pray but will also be immersed in an environment of art and nature, which will make you very happy. And, like all other pagodas, this one must strictly adhere to Buddhist principles.
Since 1989, Tran Quoc Pagoda has been designated as a National historical and cultural relic due to its historical and architectural value.
