Tan Ky House overview

Tan Ky House is located at 101 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street in Hoi An. It was constructed more than 20 years ago, it is regarded as the most beautiful and ancient house in Hoi An.

Tan Ky House’s furniture has historical and cultural significance in Vietnam, the house is built in Hoi An’s traditional tubular style. The furniture is divided into several compartments, each of which serves a different purpose.

Tan Ky House has no windows in any of its compartments, but unlike other tubular houses in new towns in Vietnam nowadays, the old town in Hoi An does not have a hard and stuffy feeling due to the clear front and back faces, as well as the well.

This house’s front face is for business, while the back face is connected to the river bank and is used to take and receive goods for business.

The house is decorated almost entirely with valuable wood, which is expertly carved with dragon and fruit images…it reflects the comfortable life of the owner generations of this ancient house thus far.

Tan Ky House has been home to seven generations, and according to the owner, it is one of the most ancient and beautiful houses still standing in Vietnam today. Aside from the wooden materials in Tan Ky House, the brick and stone are also decorated on the floor, and walls….they are brought from the most famous places such as Bat Trang village, Thanh Hoa province, Non-Nuoc village…

So that after a lot of large floods but it still remained completely the floor as originally and it looks as if there was no flood or bad events appeared there. Tan Ky House was designated by UNESCO as a national historical and cultural relic as well as a world cultural heritage site in 1985.

The house is located right in Hoi An’s old town and is very easy for tourists to find and visit this site on foot, so it should not be overlooked during your visit to Hoi An, Vietnam.
