Cat Ba tourist area is located in Cat Hai island district, located in the southern part of Ha Long Bay, about 30 kilometers from the center of Hai Phong city. Cat Ba Island is considered as the Pearl of the Gulf of Tonkin. This is an archipelago of about 366 large and small islands. When coming to Cat Ba tourism visitors can immerse themselves in the inherent green of the forest ecosystem and the sea. Cat Ba Island has pristine vegetation, rich in limestone mountains with clean, beautiful and cool beaches including Cat Co 1, Cat Co 2, Cat Dua ( also called Monkey Island), Cat Ong, etc, which like a beautiful picture the God dedicates to Hai Phong tourism.

Tuong Long Pagoda is a pagoda dating back to the Ly Dynasty (1010 – 1225), located on a land of about 2,000 square meters, on Ngoc Mountain, in the territory of Ngoc Xuyen Ward, Do Son District. Experiencing the ups and downs of history, the pagoda was severely degraded.

Started construction on January 16, 2010, up to now, Population Temple Tower was completed the first phase. The renovated pagoda is located in an area nearly 2000 square meters at the top of Ngoc Mountain. There are 20 brass statues weighing more than 20 tons is placed in the three-storey house. In particular, bell weighing 1 ton imitating the bell in Van Son Temple, is cast directly on the top of Ngoc Mountain. The foundation of Tuong Long Tower with 9 storeys is also completed. In addition that, there is a house and a two-storey archaeological hole which keep valuable artifacts as well as materials, details and patterns made from wood, stone, tile and brick from the Ly dynasty.

Lan Ha bay, that overlooks Van water front and is adjacent to Ha Long Bay, is located in the east of Cat Ba Island. The bay is over 7,000 hectares wide, 5400-hectares of which is the management’s area of Cat Ba National Park.
The scenery here is as beautiful as Ha Long Bay and may have the unique features. The density of limestone mountains here is quite thick, very pristine, and divides the sea surface into different small bays. Lots of bays and caves have not been discovered yet. There are hundreds of mountains with many shapes depending on the imagination of tourists such as Hon Guoc (like clogs), Hon Doi (like bat wings), etc.

By means of small boats, tourists can go through the canyon in the bay to visit the caves or can rest on the beach in the middle of the sea, Vung Tau, Tung Gau cave, Cat sand beach. Cat Dua beach now has monkeys for visitors and owns guest houses for overnight stay. Especially, visitors can visit the growing pearl farms here.

The specialty is green mussel, scallop and crab, etc. Many fish rafts in the bay are both a place to visit and a place to provide fresh fish and shrimp to meet the daily needs of visitors.

Bao Dai Villa, built on Vung hill, Do Son District 2, is not merely an architectural work, but also houses telling stories about Bao Dai – a Nguyen Dynasty emperor.

Indochina Governor Pafquiere built this villa in 1928, based on French architecture. Then, Governor General of Indochina donated to the King Bao Dai, and this house were called Bao Dai villa. The entire campus is 3,700 square meters wide and the area of villa is nearly 1,000 square meters, which is located on the top of Vung hill 36 meters above sea level. Since mid-1999, villa has been opened for visitors. The villa has a living room, meeting room, many bedrooms of king, queen, princes and princesses, especially, materials and photos of Bao Dai and his family. The villa has a curved road , four sides are harmonious with green trees, flowers, birds. Coming here, visitors can soak up with the cool sea breeze and the trees line.

UNESCO has officially recognized the Cat Ba Islands as the World Biosphere Reserve during the International Council on Human and Biosphere Program Collaboration, held in Paris on October 29, 2004.
On the main island, there is a lush rainforest all year round. It is a primeval forest and one of the largest national parks in the country. Protected area is 15,200 hectares wide, including 9,800 hectares of land and 4,200 hectares of sea. Cat Ba has been officially recognized as a Viet Nam national park since 23 May, 1983.

The fauna has 20 species of mammals, 69 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles and amphibians. The rare species are white-headed langurs that live on rocky cliffs monkeys, chamois and many beautiful birds such as sand, kingfishers, etc. In Cat Ba, there are bird nest and sea turtles preserved. Flora in the tabloid has 495 branches, 149 families, of which 250 species of medicinal plants. Many trees need conservation such as mahogany, boys, flowers, needles and Bac Son palm.
