48h Wandering in Phu Yen

As a coastal province in south central coast, Phu Yen has three sides bordering the mountains and a diversity system of rivers, rammers, bays, islands …. This destination still has many beautiful, wild and mysterious landscapes.

Day 1: Travel to Phu Yen

If starting from Saigon, you can catch buses which depart at 5pm or 6pm at Mien Dong (Eastern) bus station evening to early morning. Round-trip fare is 540,000 VND/ person. Travel time is about 12 hours.

If moving from Hanoi, you will have to go a longer route of about 1,250 km, the total travel time is 26 hours, the average round-trip fare is 1,300,000 VND. Additionally, you can choose the airplane to save time, the fare of about 5,000,000/ round-trip ticket.

You will arrive to Phu Yen at 5am or 5:30am, check and arrange your luggage and begin the journey of discovery. You can check-in at 2:00p, under the provisions of the hotel. In addition, for ease of movement, you should rent a motorbike for 80,000 to 120,000 VND/ day.

Have breakfast with fresh squid porridge pot dish – the specialty of marine area. Then, you come to the lighthouse of Dai Lanh.

Welcome the sunrise in the lighthouse

Dai Lanh (or Mui Dien) has very nice sand. Along the trail, you can climb to the lighthouse where you can sea panoramic view of the immense ocean, watch the boats up and down in the sea. This is where the earliest sunrise is seen in Vietnam.  The lighthouse is up to 100 years old and is still in active. The entrance fee is 10,000 VND per person.

10:00am: Passing Ca Pass, visiting Vung Ro Bay

On the way back to Tuy Hoa, you can stop to watch Vung Ro Bay and listen to the stories about Ho Chi Minh Trail on the sea. Then, if you are still interested in discovering, let’s learn how to catch lobsters by the locals and observe the lifestyle of fishermen.

11:00am:  returning to Tuy Hoa to have lunch

Phu Yen’s attractive specialty dishes are chicken rice, tuna, oyster soup, bread soup… You should also try fish salad, squid noodles or fresh seafood.

2:00pm: Visiting Nhan Mountain

This is a mountain of about 60 meters high above sea level, seen from a distance, it looks like the swallows flying. In the mountain, there is an ancient tower built in the architecture of the Cham art. Standing at the top of the mountain, you can capture in your eyes the panoramic views of the city of Tuy Hoa, admire the beauty of the green parts of the sea, trees and houses.

4:00pm: wandering in the city of Tuy Hoa

The afternoon is the right time to enjoy sea wind. You can go to 1-4 square for a drink, snack and feel the rhythm of life of people in this coastal city.

8:00pm: strolling in the evening

After dinner, you can go to Sky Lounge on the rooftop of Cendeluxe hotel to relax. Here, you can have coffee, a scenic city at night. The price of a drink is around 80,000 dong.

9:00pm- 10:00pm: Returning to the hotel and sleeping

Day 2: Da Dia Reef – Mang Lang Cathedral – O Loan Lagoon

5:00am: Seeing the dawn on the sea

To see the panoramic sunrise, you should get up early and move to the sea in Tuy Hoa. Now, the new sun rises, sun shines lightly into the sea creating a spectacular highlight.

7:00am: having breakfast at the restaurant by the sea or along the road

8:00am:  Departing for the north of Tuy Hoa and visiting Da Dia Reef

This is one of the most famous sights of Phu Yen. Seen from a distance, Da Dia Reef is like a giant honeycomb with square cylinders stretching out to sea. The reef is like thousands of black pearls which are outstanding in blue sea and white waves. You also catch the boats of fishermen looming, mooring creating the harmony, quietness for the picture of poetic coast.

11:00am: Visiting the church of Mang Lang

This is one of the oldest ancient churches in Vietnam, located on the waterfront of Ky Lo river (locally known as Cai River). The church was built in Gothic architecture with many decorated textures with simple blue- gray creating ancient, mysterious beauty. This is the place keeping the first book printed in Vietnamese compiled by pastor Alexandre de Rhodes.

1:00pm: Having lunch

2:00pm: Discovering O Loan Lagoon

Here, you can enjoy oysters and cockles which have been well known here. You can wait until the afternoon to watch the sunset. In light of the end of the day, sunset on O Loan lagoon has inspired many professional and amateur photographers.

6:00pm: Going back to the city center for dinner, then back to Saigon or Hanoi, finish the trip.
