Perfume Pagoda overview

Perfume Pagoda is located in northern Vietnam, approximately 70 kilometers by bus from Hanoi. This is one of the most well-known destinations in and around Hanoi, as well as in northern Vietnam.

Every year, a large number of domestic and foreign tourists come here to go sightseeing and pray for the best things for themselves. The best time to visit Perfume Pagoda, also known as the festival occasion, is from January to March of the lunar year (around February to April of the solar calendar).

This is a Buddhist shrine complex located on the limestone rock’s Huong Son Mountain. Its landscape is very beautiful and unique because it is a mix of water rivers and mountains.

How to explore Perfume Pagoda?

There is only one way to visit the various small temples and pagodas in this unique pagoda, and that is to take a boat.

When you arrive at the pagoda, you will first have the opportunity to see and pray at Trinh temple, and then the boat will continue to row through the Yen River to go to the other places in this area. While you are sitting on the boat, you will have the opportunity to see many lotus flowers as well as many different animals such as the goat, duck, chicken, bird…

It is said that the Yen River in this pagoda never dries up, the water in this special river is very clear and cool, and you can see a variety of seaweed under the water line. The unique thing about rowing a boat in Yen River is that it is done by locals who live in the area, it is rowed by hand (not by machine), so while you are sitting on the boat, you also have the opportunity to run the water line. This activity will make you feel very cool and fun once you visit Perfume Pagoda.

It takes approximately 45 minutes by rowing boat from the first ferry, also known as the Duc ferry in the pagoda to Thien Tru Pagoda, the most important pagoda in this sight. To ascend Thien Tru Pagoda, take the higher steps created by the stone. You can also visit Huong Tich Grotto from Thien Tru Pagoda, this grotto is located at the top and inside the mountain in Perfume Pagoda, this mountain and grotto are very high and especially, and you should not miss exploring this place once you arrive.
